Multiple On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) databases which have grown organically in number, size, and complexity over time, adding layers of interconnectivity and integrated use. They include data which is replicated to satellite servers for 24×7 access as well as archival databases supporting research applications. There are usually multiple databases per server.
